Light Scubapro Phad 8

THE PHAD 8 GAVE A VERY GOOD LIGHT by which to conduct a night dive, but I was critical of its lack of a handle. It was only later that I found the handle, packed as a separate item. more...

Fins TUSA Xpert zoom 3

I HAVE HAD SOME EMBARRASSING EXPERIENCES with unfamiliar test fins, going on multi-day dive trips only to find that I don't get on with them. more...

Heated undervest O'Three HUV

Marcus at O'Three has developed this vest, or HUV, in response to those people who became chilled during long hangs after deep dives in temperate waters. more...

Light TUSA TUL300

Only 15cm long and around 36mm in diameter, this lamp's black anodised aluminium body is easy to stow, yet it produced enough light for both of us to find our way without crashing into anything or getting hooked up anywhere. more...

Drysuit O'Three Ri2100

THE O'THREE RI2100 DRYSUIT uses very lightweight 2.5mm hyper-compressed neoprene, more...

BC Seac-sub Air One

Seac-sub's new Air One BC is another lightweight BC aimed at the travelling diver, and as I had just been sent one for DIVER Tests, it seemed daft not to take it. more...

Computers Scubapro Galileo Luna

Scubapro-Uwatec has now introduced the Galileo Luna, a simplified unit in that it comes without the heart-rate monitor (though it can be upgraded at a later date) and normally works with a single gas-integrated transmitter. more...

Fins Tigullio Venom

At one time all divers seemed to use heavy rubber Jetfins. Then, a long time ago now, a company in Italy produced a pair of lightweight fins that were so superior in many ways that they took the world market by storm. more...

BC Scubapro Equator

It doesn't seem long since the wing-style BC was introduced, and we all thought it was the best thing since sliced bread. more...

Regulator Cressi Ellipse cold water MC9

Sean at O'Three remembers me from the days when I had long hair that I tied in a pony-tail for diving, and had become well-known for being ruthless in print about items of diving equipment that were patently no good. more...

Computer Mares Puck Air

Diving is a means to an end for me. I go diving to see what's there, to photograph it and write about it later. Sometimes I go into the water three or four times in a day. more...

Computer VR Technology VRX

IF I WANT TO DOWNLOAD A PROGRAMME ON BBC IPLAYER, I confess that I call on the expertise of my nine-year-old. With this in mind, you'll understand that I do not consider myself completely computer-savvy.

Regulator Mares MR42 CARBON

CARBON IS ONE OF THOSE MEDIA BUZZWORDS. We talk about our carbon footprints before making unnecessary journeys in our over-powered cars. We concern ourselves with carbon emissions. more...

LIGHT KOWALSKI LED

MR KOWALSKI MAKES EXCEEDINGLY GOOD LAMPS, but he has tended to get a little stuck in his ways. When everyone else went over to nickel metal-hydride batteries, he stuck resolutely with nickel cadmium.

REGULATOR APEKS FLIGHT

AT LONG LAST WE'VE GOT OUR HANDS ON the lightweight regulator from the British manufacturer Apeks. Regulators from this company have developed an enviable reputation for high performance, so we were expecting nothing less, even though this model promised to be the lightest on the market.

FINS OCEANIC AERIS VELOCITY X3

There are some good fins on the market and some that, frankly, seem worse than useless, so it's always with a little trepidation that I set off on a long diving trip with a new and untried pair. It's misery finding that you are trapped far from home using fins you don't like, and it has happened to me too often.
At the last minute, I substituted a set of Oceanic Aeris Velocity X3 fins for a tried and trusted pair and set off for a long-haul trip to the Far East, where currents are known often to be fiercer than pictures of brightly coloured reefs would have us believe.

BC MARES PRESTIGE MRS

Conventions arise for good reason, and sometimes it pays to be conventional. The Mares Prestige MRS BC is a case in point. At first glance there's nothing special about it, designed as it is for use with a single tank, but what makes it special is what it does, and how it does it. more...
