Fins Sherwood FUSION

AS A MAN WITH LARGE PERIPHERAL FEATURES, I always get drysuits supplied for testing with large boots fitted. You know what they say about divers with large boots? Yes, we need fins with large footpockets.
I’ve got used to squashing my feet into tight fins that tend to be almost impossible to remove unaided after a dive. Not so with the Sherwood Fusions that I was recently sent to try. In size XL, these had the largest footpockets on any fins I have seen in a long while.
I suppose it’s because they come from the USA, a country known for its supersizes.
These fins are pretty tough-looking too. They have thick side-rails to a paddle-blade design cleverly made to look at first glance like a split-fin. The spring-straps with their outer covering look meaty enough to take the worst abuse.

In The Water
The Fusion fins powered me along despite the fact that I was wearing a drysuit and had a diver propulsion unit attached to my tank. Of course, I didn’t need any fins when I turned that on, but eventually its battery power was drained during the day, and I had to resort to the
normal form of underwater propulsion.
When I did, the broad blades combined with big over-sized side-rails shovelled the water effectively off the end to great effect.
Fusions are almost industrial in their operation. I think they will find favour with a lot of British drysuit divers , though perhaps not in the white I was sent. The new black is black.
