Underwater photographers were invited to submit prints for the event. A total of 106 prints were submitted and 80 of these were selected by a panel of judges for display at LIDS.
At the show the public were invited to vote for their favourite print in each of four categories and 850 did so. In addition a panel of judges selected the Overall Winner from all those displayed. The Wildlife Trusts selected the best UK prints displayed to use in their campaigns.
The Overall Winner of this year's competition was Alex Tattersall with a print of a Lionfish hunting in a shoal of small fish taken at Marsa Nakari, in the Egyptian Red Sea. Alex, who was delighted to win, was awarded the Grand Prize of a week's holiday in the Red Sea courtesy of Ooanasdivers.
The Winner of the British & Irish category, as voted by the public, was a print of a Seal taken in the Farne Islands, Northumberland by Pete Bullen. He receives a Trophy and a £250 voucher to spend at Calumet Photographic. The runner-up was print of a Pike taken in Wraysbury Lake, Middlesex by Nick Blake.
The Winner of the Advanced British & Irish category was a print of a Pike (Esox lucius) taken in Stoney Cove, Leicester by Gareth Millson. He receives a Trophy and a £250 Oceanic voucher to spend at an Oceanic dealers. The runner-up was a print of Trout in a chalk stream taken in the Isle of Wight by Simon Brown
The Winner of the Overseas category was a print of a Cuttlefish taken in Lankayan, Borneo by Kathy White. She receives a Trophy and a £250 voucher to spend at Cameras Underwater. The runner-up was a print of Clownfish in an anemone taken in the Similan Islands, Thailand by Joss Woolf.
The Winner of the Advanced overseas category was a print of a Diver in Cenote cave (Chak Mool) taken in Yucatan, Mexico by Cathy Lewis. She receives a Trophy and a £250 voucher to spend at Mike's Dive Store, Chiswick. The runner-up was a print of Yellow Boxfish taken in Nuweiba, Red Sea, Egypt by Trevor Rees.
The winner in each of the categories also receives an individual acrylic trophy, a copy of The Underwater Photographer (4th edition. 2010) by Martin Edge published by Focal Press, plus an annual pass for entry to any UK Sealife Aquarium.
The runner-up in each of the categories receives receives an acrylic trophy and a copy of Ultimate Diving Adventures by Len Deeley and Karen Gargani published by Wiley Nautical.
The Wildlife Trusts selected a print of a Black-faced blenny taken in Swanage by Arthur Kingdon as their Winner and a print of a spider crab taken at Stackpole Key, Pembrokeshire by Trevor Rees as their Runner-up. Both Arthur and Trevor receive a year's free membership of their local Wildlife Trust and a copy of The Unnatural History of the Sea by Professor Callum Roberts.
