| Guadalupe Island off the Pacific coast of Mexico is said to offer calm, warm water and reliable sightings of great white sharks, but it usually takes a 24-hour voyage from San Diego in California to get there. But now divers booking aboard the 116ft Nautilus Explorer can save plenty of valuable diving time by being flown out by aircraft in only 90 minutes. The liveaboard, which has five shark cages, is hosting Mexican scientists who are using acoustic telemetry, tagging and DNA sampling to study great whites in the area. Paying guests are welcome to join the scientists on the boat and in the cages, for a four- or five-day trip including flights that costs from $2150. A donation of $150 from every fee goes to the Guadalupe White Shark Conservation Fund. |
