Dive the Vandenberg!

12 June 2009

Divers able to travel to Florida by 30 June could be among the first to explore the newly-sunk 160m-long US Navy missile tracking ship Vandenberg.

Bon Voyage is offering a 5-night holiday to Key West from £875 per person for those booking by 27 June and travelling by 30 June - a saving of £475 per person. The  price includes five nights at the Doubletree Grand Key Resort on a room-only basis, flights with British Airways in its World Traveller Plus cabin and Alamo car hire including insurance.

The US Navy's decommissioned General Hoyt S Vandenberg went down seven miles south of Key West, in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. The sinking represents the final link in the Florida Keys Shipwreck Trek, a series of internationally sunk vessels that starts off at Key Largo with the Spiegel Grove and ends with the Vandenberg.

Sitting upright in 43m of water, the massive vessel's extensive and diverse superstructures rise to within 12m of the surface, providing varied opportunities for both novice and experienced divers.
