Season of the shark
14 May 2010
"Each year, in the deep waters to the north of the island, dozens of whale sharks migrate through the area. In March and April one has a particularly good chance of seeing and swimming with the largest fish in the ocean."
That's the message from specialist dive operator Divequest with regard to Utila, in Honduras's Bay Islands, which lie in the world's second largest barrier reef system. And it is running a trip to get under water with the visiting giants (as pictured here by Wally Deihl) for divers who like to plan ahead.
As well as snorkelling with whale sharks as and when located, the Divequest trip in April next year features 5 days' diving (up to 3 boat dives daily and unlimited shore diving). Dates are 1-11 April 2011, and the provisional price of £1325 includes 7 nights' full-board accommodation at Utila's Deep Blue Resort, but not international flights.
Divequest organises high-quality diving holidays to a range of top dive destinations around the world, including specialist areas such as Galapogos, Cocos and the Solomon Islands.
