2266-ton British cargo steamer, built 1889. 277ft x 38ft. 188hp triple-expansion engines. Cargo: General, plus oranges and lemons. Venice for London, via Valencia. Position: 50 47.05N; 00 22.20W. Depth: 10m. Sunk: 1 March 1901, collided with German steamer Washington in dense fog near Owers. Towed by tug and grounded a mile south of Worthing Pier. Diving: Dispersed by explosives, but now emerging from sand. Bathroom exposed, complete with taps and china washbasin. Good second dive. Heavily potted. Launch: Goring, Shoreham. |
