The incident occurred a day after the death of a British diver at Cirkewwa on Malta, as reported on Divernet.

Police were called to the Gozo site at 3.30pm and found that the 53-year-old man had been brought ashore by other divers. He was taken for treatment at Gozo General hospital. The incident is now subject to a magistrate’s inquiry.

Xatt l-Ahmar Bay lies in the south of Gozo, on the other side of the short ferry crossing from Cirkewwa on Malta.

The 50-year-old British diver who died there on Tuesday (8 May) at around mid-day had been diving with a buddy, and when he got into difficulties had been brought ashore by other divers, said the police. He was declared dead after being taken to Mater Dei Hospital.

Police investigations are continuing into both incidents.

In late October last year two diving deaths occurred on consecutive days in Ghajnsielem, the municipality that includes Xatt l-Ahmar Bay.
