Dr Ian Sibley-Calder, sport diver, diving physiology expert and consultant to DIVER Magazine, will leave the comfort of his North Humberside home in the new year and head for Vietnam.
Starting in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), he plans to set off as one of a cycling group on 20 January.
He will spend the next ten days riding some 400km from Vietnam into Cambodia, to finish amongst the ancient temples of Angkor Wat.
Dr Sibley-Calder looks forward to what will clearly be a fascinating journey, although heat upward of 35 degrees combined with 85% humidity will make for a fairly sticky time.
For the pedalling doctor the most important thing, however, is to raise a tidy sum for Orchid.
The charity backs research, awareness promotion and patient support in relation to testicular, prostate and penile cancers.
Dr Sibley-Calder was just 12 when his father died from testicular cancer aged 37 – but not before he had volunteered for new treatments to aid the quest for cures.
Those who would like to lend their support can do so via the doctor’s Just Giving web page www.justgiving.com/ian-sibley-calder.
