The Kernow Federation of Dive Clubs recently announced that money raised from its annual summer Dive Festival, held at Penzance, had totalled £2800.
Around 15 Cornish clubs took part in a weekend of organized dives and fundraising raffles and auctions.
A cheque has been presented to the Diving Diseases Research Centre (DDRC), based in the grounds of Plymouth’s Derriford Hospital.
It brings to £13,000 the amount raised for the DDRC by the Kernow Dive Festival, which ran for the ninth time this year.
Dr Christine Cridge, Director of the DDRC, said that the centre was “truly grateful to the Kernow Federation for their fantastic support over the years”.
The DDRC, which has charitable status, engages in hyperbaric-related medical research and chamber treatments.
Beneficiaries are divers and other types of patient who can benefit from hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
The centre offers training courses to help divers understand the symptoms of decompression illness and what procedures should be followed.
Pre-arranged parties can tour the DDRC’s Hyperbaric Medical Centre and undertake chamber dry dives.
