Lundy Splash-in promises rich opportunities

The island, set off North Devon in the mouth of the Bristol Channel, has a statutory marine reserve – Britain’s first, designated in 1986. 

A fishing no-take zone was established in 2003 and, in January 2010, Lundy Island became England’s first – and currently only - designated Marine Conservation Zone.

All of which means a surfeit of marine life awaiting underwater photographers keen to take up the Splash-In challenge.

Competition categories are Mega to Macro, for portraits of marine species; Marine Ambience, for underwater scenery (including diving companions); and Marine Abstract, for other imaginative creations.

Prizes, totalling nearly £3000 in value, have been donated by Suunto, Olympus, AP Values, Scuba Travel, Mares, Scuba Travel, Sea&Sea and Cameras Underwater.

Entry costs £20.00 per person, to include camping on Lundy on the Saturday night and entry to an evening barn dance, where all photographic entries will be screened and presentations made to the winners.

Divers can also enter by turning up on the day but, with a maximum of 45 competition places available, pre-registration is advisable.
