In the past, says HEPCA, problems have included various disagreements within the Government. Previous decrees were unworkable, for instance, because they contradicted other aspects of Egyptian law in relation to fishing rights.
Now a workable ban, issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, is in place. It applies throughout Egyptian territorial waters, which extend a distance of 12 miles out from the country’s coastline.
'We are all now looking forward to, and getting ready to implement, this new decree,' said Amr Ali, HEPCA Managing Director.
