According to the Palm Beach Post, Wesley Murphy, 35, was diving with two other people off Palm Beach's Breakwaters Resort. He was about 125m from shore and in just 2m of water when he was hit.
Murphy was recovered by the boat occupants, who took him ashore. Palm Beach's Police Captain, Keith Robinson, was reported to say that Murphy was suffering from back pain and bruising.
Recovering in hospital, Murphy is reported to have said that he heard the boat coming and just had time to duck before his cylinder was sliced through and burst. He did not remember much after that.
Investigators are reportedly trying to determine who may have been at fault. Divers are required to deploy divers-down flags (red with white diagonal strip) and boats are required to steer at least 300ft clear of these in open water.
