| The Maritime and Coastguard Agency has called off its search for a diver who went missing off south Cornwall yesterday. Brixham Coastguard received an emergency call put out by the dive boat Cleo, lying about two miles south-east of Gorran Haven, reporting that a diver had gone missing.
The diver, a man in his mid-fifties, was reported to be wearing a black and yellow dry suit and a BC fitted with a white cylinder. He was in a group that had been diving the wreck of the Eastfield, about 2.5 miles east-south-east of Chapel Point.
Co-ordinated by Brixham Coastguard, Fowey RNLI lifeboat and inshore lifeboat, Looe lifeboat and 16 other surface vessels carried out an extensive line search of the area around the wreck. An aerial comb was carried out by a helicopter from RNAS Culdrose.
Despite fair conditions of a Force Three wind and slight sea, with 10-mile visibility, no trace of the missing diver was found. The search was called off at dusk.
