According to the Northern Echo, the caver has been named as Michael Wooding, 63, from Wigglesworth, in Ribblesdale.
Wooding was diving at Meregill Skit pothole, near Ingleton. He was found by police searchers after another caver noticed that his car had been parked at the site for an unusually long time.
