According to PADI's British office, Catalonia is 'now working under the national law, which sets a minimum age of 16'.
This is a change to the situation reported by Divernet on 1 June, when PADI was informed that Catalonia enforced 'no age limit beyond that imposed by the training agencies'. Minimum ages stipulated by PADI and the BSAC are 10 and 12 respectively.
Those planning to holiday with young divers in Spain or the Canary Islands are advised to check carefully with the dive centre concerned as, Catalonia apart, other areas operate rules varying from national law.
As previously reported by Divernet, the Canary Islands stipulates 16 as the age limit - but with the proviso that younger teenagers are considered for diving or training given parental permission.
And Andalucia, says PADI, specifies '12 minimum for introductory experiences (such as Discover Scuba Diving) and 14 minimum for certification'.
Divernet has not received information to suggest that these arrangements have been altered since they were reported in June.
