Shark Alliance members include the Shark Trust, the European Elasmobranch Association, the Ocean Conservancy, Oceana, PADI Project AWARE, MarViva and the Pew Charitable Trusts.
Campaigning will concentrate mainly on European fishing policy measures. The group's first campaign statement, Sharks at Risk - EU Policies Threaten Species Globally, was released this month.
The statement highlights threats posed by the shark finning industry, and maintains that the EU needs to address numerous loopholes in its legislation meant to reduce EU shark finning activity. Related links Shark Alliance |
