It wants to inspect them in relation to a 'potentially dangerous fault' that the manufacturer has discovered in a batch of jackets.

Sea & Sea says it believes that the BCs with which it was supplied are of a latter batch, and that only a small number of earlier models are affected.

'Nevertheless, for the sake of safety, we require you to return your IST Saturn BCD to us for examination and replacement (if necessary),' it has stated.

'We must stress that this fault affects only a small number of units and appears only after some usage. The intention is, therefore, to identify any potentially faulty jacket before it reaches this stage.'
