Lt Paul McAulay, 27, was diving to retrieve a marker at the Royal Navy's dive training centre on Horsea Island, near Portsmouth. He was unable to regain the surface after vomiting while submerged. Although the MoD has admitted liability, diving instructor Petty Officer Anthony Watt was cleared of a manslaughter charge at Winchester Crown Court in June. An inquest into the death will be held next year. Lt McAulay was the Royal Navy's bobsleigh champion.
