Britain's Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society has condemned the action as 'unnecessary', saying that Japan faces the need to empty current stockpiles of meat before the fleet returns. To do that it is 'desperately promoting whale meat to new audiences', for instance to school caterers and fast-food services at 'less than market value', and is working to broaden the use of whale meat in restaurants and hotels.
