According to press reports, the 49-year-old was one of a boat charter party diving between Christmas and New Year on the wreck of the Mikhail Lermontov in Gore Bay, north of Picton on the north-east coast of South Island.
The woman was reported to have got into distress at a depth of about 10m, losing her regulator from her mouth. Her diving buddy was able to replace the regulator and conduct an emergency ascent but, despite the assistance, the woman was reported to be unconscious when she was taken aboard the dive boat.
She revived after being given CPR by fellow-divers, before evacuation by helicopter to a Wellington hospital where she was later reported to be in a comfortable condition. |
