The study was carried out by Scottish Enterprise Borders, as part of its adventure sports assessments for the Borders region. It recognised the special importance of diving to the Eyemouth and St Abbs area, describing it as 'one of the best diving sites in the UK', with an estimated 20,000 diving visits a year.
But more could be done to attract new divers, it said. The area had not been 'widely promoted to beginners or to an international audience'.
It concluded that enhanced facilities - for which, presumably, local grants might be involved - allied with keener marketing could succeed in broadening the base of diving enthusiasts drawn to the area. |
