Mike DeGruy joins Dive 2007 line-up

Latest addition to a compelling line-up of guest speakers at Dive 2007, the Dive Show held at the NEC, Birmingham on 13/14 October, is celebrated US film-maker and TV presenter Mike DeGruy.

In the same month Mike can be seen on British TV screens in a series of three hour-long programmes titled Pacific Abyss, one of the most ambitious projects ever undertaken by the BBC Natural History Unit.
Mike says he knew that the 2000-mile dive trip around Micronesia covered in the programmes was going to be special: 'We have a boat, we've got fantastic cameras, we've got rockets, ROVs, we've got the ability to do extended dives in these new areas in a way that no one's ever done it - it's classic expedition stuff.'
A 30-strong team led by Mike and British TV presenter Kate Humble discovered new species of fish and enormous cave systems below 100m in the course of making the programmes, which climax in Mike's descent in a Newtsuit, 'the submarine you can wear'.
The pressurised suit can transport a diver straight to 300m. After some intensive training Mike summed up the thrill of this amazing piece of equipment by saying: 'It's like the ultimate video game - only you're in it!'.

Lined up alongside Mike deGruy to speak at the Dive Show are Fabien Cousteau, Richard Peirce, Monty Halls and John Boyle (marine life); Leigh Bishop and Innes McCartney (wreck-diving); Martyn Farr and Rick Stanton (cave-diving); and the world's deepest freediver, Herbert Nitsch.
