Philippe Kloos, who owned Coral Sub Dive Centre on the Canary island of Tenerife and was its chief instructor, disappeared with trainee José Luis Santamaría Ría on 20 March, while diving reportedly in strong currents off Palm Mar, near Punta de Rasca.
Belgian Kloos, who lived in Arona, and Ría, a sergeant in the Guardia Civil, went missing while on a mid-morning dive in a group of 10, diving from a Coral Sub vessel operating out of Las Galletas.
An emergency call was put out and a search involving a helicopter and six surface craft was launched, but nothing was found.
A memorial service was held in mid-April for the pair, attended by family, friends, colleagues, the mayor of Arona and other dignitaries.
Coral Sub Dive Centre is both a PADI 5-Star Gold Palm IDC resort and a BSAC dive centre. |
