Farrow was the BSAC National Coach for Scotland. A professional scientist and chartered engineer, he held BSAC First Class Diver Examiner, Instructor Trainer and National Instructor qualifications, and was also an advanced IANTD technical diver.
Farrow got into difficulties after being separated from his dive-group, and after an alert was issued he was found on the shore of the island of Westray.
He was taken by lifeboat to Kirkwall but pronounced dead soon afterwards.
