Louise Killa, 39, from Coulsdon in Surrey, became ill and collapsed while diving off Phuket, during a diving package holiday taken in late April and early May. She was taken ashore by speed boat and transferred to Bangkok Phuket Hospital, where she received treatment including recompression, but did not recover.
Her body was repatriated and a post mortem was carried out at Withybush Hospital. But it was not possible to determine the cause of death due to the effects of embalming and the absence of data recording her dive profile, the Pembrokeshore coroner heard.
Killa's father and brother asked at the inquest whether there was any evidence of unacceptable time delay in rescuing and transferring the diver.
The coroner's officer who investigated the case replied that he did not know. Information he had received about the incident, from the Thai Police via the Foreign Office, contained no 'indication of a proper time-line'.
Killa was described as a very experienced diver, whose main hobbies were diving and underwater photography. She had dived in many parts of the world and, qualified as an instructor, had taught friends on some of the trips.
The coroner recorded a verdict of unascertained death. |
