The ACHWS advises Government Ministers regarding the protection of wrecks, on grounds of historical, archaeological or artistic importance, under the Protection of Wrecks Act 1973.

They are asked to commit to three full-day committee meetings a year, an annual meeting with the licensees of designated wreck sites, and the study of reports. Sitting on sub-committees for specific issues may also be required.
The deadline for applications is 14 November, for interviews commencing on 8 December. Application forms and full role specifications from: Mark Greenwood, Public Appointments, Dept for Culture, Media and Sport, 2/4 Cockspur Street, London SW1Y 5DH, 0207 211 2311, Mark.Greenwood@culture.gsi.gov.uk
