At around midday yesterday, a surfaced diver raised the alarm that he had lost his buddy. The Swanage-based charter boat Killer Prawn immediately called the Coastguard.
Searches were mounted by the Portland Coastguard helicopter and RNLI lifeboats from Swanage and Poole. A sail training vessel, a police launch and a number of yachts and powered craft joined the search fleet.
Despite fair sea conditions, no sighting of the diver was made. An evening dive by instructors and other staff from Divers Down, the dive boat operator, also yielded no result.
Another air search was being carried out today by the Coastguard's Lee-on-Solent helicopter. Divers Down was carrying out further dives on the Kyarra. And local craft were being asked to keep a sharp look-out.
The missing diver is reported to be a 48-year-old woman, who was diving with a single buddy. The two divers are reported to have become separated while ascending from the wreck.
