As gale force winds continue to lash the north of Britain and north-west Scotland dive charter boats have been damaged in the storms.
Kylebahn, based in Oban, broke free from her moorings and was dashed onto rocks against the shore.
Fortunately, many dive boats have been taken out of the water for repairs during the winter as little sea diving is taking place.
The ferries that run from the mainland to the Orkney Islands have been cancelled for safety reasons, preventing divers from reaching their Scapa Flow charters. Dive boats based in Stromness harbour have been trapped at their moorings, and MV Karin is reported to have sustained damage to her bow. The severe weather has caused flooding, with small boats and loose objects deposited in the streets of Stromness.
The start of 2005 has been dismal weather-wise for divers, with the majority of UK dives currently taking place at inland sites.
