The system came into force on 1 January, and applies to British citizens normally resident in the UK. It allows holders to benefit from free or reduced-cost medical care when visiting an EU country or Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Switzerland. Treatments covered are those provided under a country’s state system.
