Club celebrates 50 years - and more
|
A Manchester diving club is 50 years old this year, and can even trace its heritage back to a diving club formed in 1950, three years before the launch of the British Sub-Aqua Club.

Manchester Diving Group grew out of the mid-20th-century Sunlight House Divers and Manchester Tadpoles. 'We're possibly the oldest continuous diving club in the UK and maybe the world,' club Treasurer Steve Rogerson told Divernet.
Over the years, MDG based its training programmes and certification grades closely on those of the British Sub-Aqua Club, while remaining an independent club. In 1997 it moved over to the Sub-Aqua Association.
MDG is set for a celebratory knees-up on 6 May, with a barbecue at its (bar-licenced) clubhouse in Manchester's Chorlton area.
Former members or those with clear connections with the club are invited to make contact with a view to joining in the fun. Call Membership Secretary Tony Jackson on 0161 881 9050.
