Off Kimmeridge in Dorset, a Southampton diving club reported to Portland Coastguard that a pair of divers were missing. In choppy conditions they were chanced upon by a sailing yacht, some five miles from where they had entered the water.
The yacht reported their position and stood by until their club boat made it over to pick them up and transfer them ashore for a medical check-up.
Meanwhile a dive boat of Bridlington, East Yorkshire lost touch with a pair of its divers. A search was made by lifeboats, an RAF helicopter and a fisheries protection vessel which was in the area.
In the end the two men were spotted by the crew of a fishing boat and retrieved from the sea, impressively just 37 minutes after the initial distress call went out. |
