The large, plankton-hoovering creatures were both reported off Teignmouth, by fishermen. Normally, they are spotted in British waters perhaps into late September, after which they head off to the Indian and Pacific oceans.

Warm seas have encouraged British winter growth of plankton, encouraging the basking sharks to stay for longer than they would otherwise have done.
