Michael Morvan, 36, a member of Hartlepool Diving Club, was on his first dive at the marina. According to Cleveland Police he was an inexperienced diver but was under instruction from more advanced club members at the time.
The cause of death has yet to be established but the police say it is not being treated as suspicious. They are investigating the incident and the Health & Safety Executive has offered its assistance.
