According to the North-West Evening Mail the 22-year-old woman, from Chorley in Lancashire, fell 4m head-first off a ladder onto rock, suffering a fractured skull and vertebral damage. The ladder from which she fell descends to a tunnel through which the quarry is accessed.
Twelve members of Coniston Mountain Rescue Team stretchered the casualty out and transferred her by vehicle to a landing site near the quarry, from where she was evacuated by Great North Air Ambulance to Cumberland Infirmary.
The diver was later reported to be in a stable condition. It was not reported whether she had suffered any long-lasting injury.
