Claude Lau was among a group of 10 that included his sister, diving in buddy pairs on the 32m-deep wreck on 26 May. They were diving from the chartered Blue Turtle, out of Lyme.
Lau, 35, a member of the British Sub-Aqua Club's Ruislip and Northwood branch, is reported to have made a rapid ascent. He was airlifted to Dorchester Hospital and put on a ventilator in the high-dependency unit. He died three days later. The incident has been kept confidential for the past two weeks.
Lau's buddy was airlifted to Poole Hospital, where he was recompressed and released on the same day.
Dorset Police Marine Section is investigating the incident, including analysis of the computers worn by Lau and his buddy. The police stated: 'What seems to have happened was that Claude Lau went down with his dive buddy and within a few minutes of being down on the wreck, he had some sort of difficulty, which resulted in his dive buddy getting him back to the surface as soon as possible.'
