The Diving Diseases Research Centre, which is based at the city's Derriford Hospital and oversees chamber treatments, reported that 11 divers were admitted, joining two others already there for recompression.
Facilities were stretched to the limit. 'We had three hyperbaric chambers operating at the same time and this included our very large multiple-place chamber,' said Karena Ping, DDRC Chief Executive.
Most of the incidents are understood to have involved local dives, at sites including the Scylla frigate wreck and Eddystone Rock. Other divers were airlifted from further afield, including one case from South Wales.
