The MCS needs information for its national Jellyfish Survey, which is linked with some other research being carried out by the society into movements of leatherback turtles.
That's because, by understanding where and when jellyfish appear, the MCS - apart from learning something about jellyfish - can get a better idea of where to look for the migrating turtles that feed on the drifting wobblies.
The MCS says that large blooms of jellyfish have already been reported in southern England, Wales and western Scotland, despite unseasonal weather. More blooms are expected during the rest of the summer, when some hot weather may yet materialise.
An identification guide to the different types of jellyfish common around the UK, together with a Jellyfish Survey report form, can be downloaded at the MCS website.
