Little angels
|
Staff at Deep Sea World, at North Queensferry in Fife, have been thrilled to learn that an angel shark at the aquarium is due to give birth.

It is a first, it is thought, for captive examples of the species. The prospective mother was mated with a male also held at the aquarium, three years after being moved from Hastings Underwater World.
The offspring could number from 9-20, and will measure 20-30cm when they are born after a gestation period of a year.
The angel is a flat, bottom-dwelling shark, found in the UK and Mediterranean. An ambush predator, it grows to almost 2m in length.
