The Marine Conservation Society has already done well with its Good Fish Guide, published since 2002, and website www.fishonline.org. These explain which types of fish are, and are not, sustainable in terms of fishing and supply to consumers.
Now the MCS has taken things a stage further by publishing, in partnership with Marks & Spencer, a book that explains not only the fish that can be bought with a clear conscience, but how to convert them into a good meal.
Fish and Seafood Bible - From The Ocean To The Table can be bought at Marks & Spencer stores across the UK, at ?7.50.
The MCS chose M&S to be its partner in the project due, says MCS Fisheries Policy Officer Dr Bryce Beukers-Stewart, to the company's 'strong commitment to sustainability and a reputation for only selling fish from responsibly managed fisheries, sourcing their advice from the Marine Conservation Society's seafood sustainability website'.
This year's MCS Annual conference, over 16 and 17 November in Portsmouth, includes the Sustainable Seafood Summit, including a round-up of the good and the bad for marine life in British waters in 2007.
