As reported by Divernet on 5 September, the island's roads were damaged by inclement weather - although this occurred over a period of time rather than during one big hit, as implied.
But contrary to that Divernet report, the roads are not impassable. 'The island is open to visitors and the road is useable,' the Landmark Trust, which manages the island, has told Divernet.
Road repairs had been planned for some time 'in a phased approach over the next five years', and the first works began earlier this year. However, last winter's 'exceptionally high and heavy seas' had forced the programme to be brought forward.
This had led to an appeal to raise ?250,000, so that road repairs could be stepped up this winter.
