An emergency call was put out by the dive boat Halton yesterday at 1.30pm, kick-starting a search by Coastguard's Stornoway helicopter, the Tobermory Lifeboat and Coastguard shore teams.
The dive boats Brendan, Gaelic Rose and Peregrine joined in the search with the Halton, and sport divers descended to the wreck in a bid to find the missing diver.
Conditions were good, with a quiet sea and good visibility, but nothing was found and searches finished at 6pm as daylight faded.
The Coastguard has confirmed to Divernet that, today, the helicopter and lifeboat searches are under way, again with good search conditions. A Coastguard vessel is also on site with a team of police search divers.
The Rondo, a popular dive, is a 2360-ton steamship that ran aground on the small island of Dearg Sgeir in 1935, after dragging her anchor in bad weather. She slipped off down a steep cliff, her bow resting at some 50m while her stern remains close to the surface. |
