The diver is Neil Rodgers, 40, from Thorpe Hesley. He went missing last Sunday while diving the wreck of the Rondo with fellow members of Doncaster Sub Aqua Club, a BSAC branch.
Air, sea and shoreline searches, conducted by the Coastguard, RNLI, dive boats and police and sport divers continued for three days, being called off at dusk yesterday.
According to South Yorkshire Police, Rodgers, a married father of four, had been diving for five years. Through the police Linda Lawcock, Chair of Doncaster Sub Aqua Club, said: 'Neil was a long-standing and enthusiastic member of the diving club, and was well liked and will be sadly missed.
'All members of Doncaster SAC are shocked by this incident and their thoughts are with the family and friends of Neil at this difficult time.'
Investigations by the police and the Procurator Fiscal have been launched.
