The male diver is reported to have been diving with a buddy off Noup Head near Westray on Monday afternoon, when he got into difficulties.
It is reported that, after the alarm was raised at about 4.30pm, the diver was found on the shoreline by Coastguard searchers and transferred by lifeboat to Kirkwall, where he was pronounced dead.
