The inaugural Essex Festival of Diving will be hosted by Basildon's Underwater Studios, in partnership with Ocean Optics. Talks, presentations and demonstrations will cover subjects including dive training, freediving, marine conservation, marine archaeology and travel.
A Royal Navy dive team will be there to meet visitors and demonstrate some of their equipment in a 6m-deep dive tank. Try-dives will be available for non-diving friends, while qualified divers will have the opportunity to try out an Aqualung Mistral, a modern-day reincarnation of the double-hose-style regulator developed by Jacques Cousteau and EmilleGagnan in 1943.
Entry costs ?5 on the day. Children under 16 enter free if accompanied by an adult. For more information, call 01268 270171, or go to www.essexdivingfestival.com
