Hung up on sharks
|
A woman has suspended herself by flesh-embedded hooks in a London shop window, to draw attention to the plight of sharks targeted for their fins.

Alice Newstead, a performance artist, had de-barbed shark hooks pushed through her flesh over each shoulder blade, before being suspended in a display window of Regent Street's Lush cosmetics store.
Lying side-on to the viewing public, Newstead remained in a forward-leaning position, with lower legs in contact with the display area floor so that the hooks supported most but not quite all of her body weight, for 15 minutes.
The artist is a former employee at Lush, which agreed to the gruesome show as part of its own backing for anti-finning campaigns. Proceeds from one of its products, Shark Fin Soap, are going to the Sea Shepherd conservation group.
Of the lasting effects of her hanging, Newstead told journalists: 'I will be left with scars, but the wounds will heal.'
