Clean-up day beckons
|
Divers all over the world are gearing up to do their bit for the marine environment on Saturday, 20 September, International Clean-Up Day 2008.

|
Run by PADI Project AWARE, the event is encouraging divers and others to run clean-up events, either on seashores or, ideally with divers, below the low-water mark.
Any other conservation-related project, such as an educational or fund-raising event, is also welcomed. In Britain, it will mean a bit of late-season diving for any underwater clean-up volunteers.
As an example, Glasgow's Aquatron Dive Centre will be fielding around 30 volunteers over the weekend to clear underwater and shoreline debris from around the Finnart Oil Terminal in Loch Long, a popular dive training ground in western Scotland. They've even arranged for Argyll & Bute Council to come along and 'collect the rubbish directly'!
PADI has produced promotional materials and a list of clean-up venues, which could be useful for any last-minute volunteers.
