The dive, ratified by governing body AIDA, took place in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt on 9 May. Coste's ninth world-record dive took 4min 14sec and passed the 136m mark set by Martin Stepanek last April.
While in Sharm, Coste also plans to try to break Stepanek's recent 106m free immersion record, set in April. Variable Weight involves the freediver descending on a sledge and ascending using his or her own strength, but Free Immersion allows no means of propulsion other than pulling on the rope on descent and ascent. |
