As part of a 1.3 million euro European Regional Development Fund project for Gozo, to which Malta will contribute 25%, divingÂ’s potential to deliver increased revenue has been recognised.
Under the project’s Diving Master Plan, 57 key dive sites – 45 off Gozo and 12 off the smaller Comino – have been identified. Dive centre and boat services connected with the sites are being analysed, and areas for improvement noted. Short, medium and long-term plans are to be implemented to improve services to diving visitors.
Measures already completed include the sinking of two decommissioned ferries at ix-Xatt I-Anmar last August, and the provision of a decompression chamber last December.
