Vervon Messier, 57, was standing in a lake at Timber Greens Golf Course, in Pasco County. He was about 3m from the side and preparing to submerge when the alligator, estimated at more than 2m long, grabbed him by the foot and pulled him under.
Messier described how he hit out at the eyes of the alligator, which let go and allowed him to scramble ashore. Suffering minor injuries, Messier was able to decline treatment on site.
